CUSCO – URCOS – TINKE – PACCHANTA - 7 LAGOONS

Early, we left at 3:30 AM and headed south-east of the city of Cusco, after 3 hours and 30 minutes. We will arrive at the town of Pacchanta to have breakfast and then start the walk that lasts an average of 6 or 7 hours. The journey begins in the town of Pacchanta, which is 4,300 meters above sea level. and then following a gradual ascent of 5.5 kilometers until reaching the first lagoon Pucacocha 4850 m.s.n.m. and at the same time it is the highest point of the route, then we will continue exploring the other lagoons and especially the unmissable China “female” and Orco “male” Otorongo Cocha lagoons, to then have 7 more kilometers of return walk that in general presents more descents to finally get back to Pacchanta for the delicious lunch, it is optional to also enjoy the thermal baths of Pacchanta. After that we will board the van that will take us back to Cusco with a journey of approximately 3.5 hours.

GEOGRAPHY: The area of the Ausangate mountain where the circuit of the Seven Lagoons is located and is located in the Andes mountain range, specifically in the eastern Andes of southern Peru within the Vilcanota mountain chain that is made up of valleys, canyons and high plateaus. It is located within the administrative territory of the Cusco region in the Ocongate district of the Quispicanchis province.

HISTORY: The Andean civilization has settled since ancient times, forming their own culture and identity, through time, they adapted their needs to a hostile and difficult environment such as the Andes mountain range and they knew how to develop knowledge that even today are part of our admiration, due to its historical content many times they keep secrets that little by little we will discover in each of our experiences, the history in a good percentage is related to the Incas, since they were the result of a an amalgamation of ancient civilizations that developed many years ago, with colonization and the arrival of the Catholic religion, many customs were acquired and many remain, forming a perfect cultural secrecy in all its aspects, which summarizes the current importance of all the elements that it comes to shape our history, religion and our ethnic diversity.

IDIOSYNCRACY: Generally, the inhabitants of the Andes in rural areas are extremely friendly and reserved people. The language spoken is Quechua, which has been transmitted from generation to generation since ancient times, and Spanish is spoken more in cities and large towns, even many of them they maintain their traditions and customs. In the cities, regional nationalism is practiced, the Catholic religion is carried out with traditional practices of the Andean religion, making it a cultural-religious syncretism, there are a long line of traditional festivities throughout the year, and many times they pause normal activities that one is going to do.

ECONOMY: Agricultural activity in many remote areas is the only livelihood, but in the last decade the surrounding area of the Ausangate mountain has been positively impacted by tourism activity, in rural areas many peasant communities still practice very old agricultural techniques to be able to master the verticality of our geography.

CLIMATE: In general, the Andes has a particularity: it forms a natural barrier that constitutes the factor that most determines its climate. Scholars vertically analyse the orography of our territory and classify it according to altitude, higher altitude, lower temperature, less height higher temperature, specifically the area to know that is close to 5 thousand meters above sea level, presents chances of rain from noon and the temperature varies between 5 to 0 degrees Celsius according to the time of year.

TRANSPORTATION: There are a good number of paved roads and unpaved roads "trails" which we will use to get to make our excursions, for the classic visit to the circuit of the 7 lagoons we will use the paved road that connects Cusco with Madre de Dios known as the Interoceanica and then we take the detour along a dirt road until we reach the beginning of the route. Also taking into account that there are rural roads that are still used by peasant communities and a large part of them made up the ancient and famous Inca road network or "Ccapac Ñan".

SERVICES: In remote places there is some difficulty with the telephone signal. In the area of the seven lagoons there are places where you could suddenly find a mobile phone network signal. There is no electricity, the exchange rate from dollars to soles is done with a considerable margin against the dollar, attempts are made to bring soles in cash, and the community in charge of the administration of the circuit of the seven lagoons has not yet implemented restrooms. However, in the town of Pacchanta there are toilets and the telephone signal in the town of Tinke.

HEALTH AND SECURITY. Your safety is very important to us, we have a large database which is part of our emergency care procedure and protocols, first aid posts are being implemented but the closest hospital is Cusco, although there are posts on the route health, Cusco is considered one of the safest regions in Peru, and remote areas in many cases are being watched by the self-defense committee and peasant patrols that maintain order in the absence of the Police.

The full advance will be refunded if the reservation was more than 2 months in advance and the cancellation 1 month in advance.

For last minute reservations, cancellations do not apply.
